Gordon Dunn

Gordon is one of the UK’s leading and most versatile guitarists with a renowned passion for music education.  He first picked up a guitar at the relatively late age of 14, was instantly addicted, and at 16 he was accepted to study music at university where he supported Bad Attitude on their UK Jazz tour in 1998 as a bassist.

In 1999 Gordon was a finalist in the Admira Young Guitarist of the Year competition at the Bath International Guitar Festival where he was later a tutor for seven consecutive years.  Between 1997-2005 he studied with many of the World’s finest guitarists: Tom Kerstens, James Woodrow, Gary Ryan, Craig Ogden, Simon Dinnigan and Mark Ashford.  He graduated from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a Master of Music (performance).

Gordon has performed across Europe as a recitalist, concerto soloist and member of the

opera/classical/jazz/pop/rock fusion group String Theory which he co-formed with the exceptional platinum selling ex-Apartment26 rock bassist Louis Macan.  Their debut EP ‘Eclectic Protocol’ is available on CD or from iTunes.

Since 2008 Gordon has been a regular performer with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford Upon Avon and has appeared on stage with David Tennant (Dr. Who), Patrick Stewart (Star Trek) and Oliver Ford Davies (Star Wars) in Hamlet and also in comedian Tim Minchin’s critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda which won a record-breaking seven Olivier awards and is now on Broadway.

As a teacher, Gordon has assisted many students in obtaining scholarships and enrolling on undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs including at Berklee College of Music (USA).  Recent teaching positions include the Junior Guildhall School of Music (London) and the University of Warwick.

Gordon mainly uses a custom James Lister classical guitar, Schecter C1 Classic, Fernandes Dragonfly Elite and uses Hughes & Kettner amps.  Aside from music he plays a lot of tennis!
